Interim Feedback from UWE UNISON on the CATE Tech Re-Org

Thanks to all members and staff that have submitted feedback to UWE UNISON on the CATE Tech Re-Org so far.

The interim report from the union has been submitted and consists of two documents in the files below. One file is a summary report of themes that have come in as submissions to the union and the other file is an appendix listing 5 pages of errors we’ve detected in the Job Descriptions. Considering job descriptions are part of a legal contract, even grammatical errors have an impact.  It was especially worrying about the lack of Health & Safety elements missing from the JDs, suggesting a real lack of knowledge of what technical staff actually do.

Please continue submitting your feedback to the union in the various forums of emails to the union inbox, the feedback form, group meetings or requesting 1-2-1s with union Reps.

Please have a look through the documents and highlight anything in your own JDs that is relevant. If you find items that reinforce the points in the union’s interim documents let us know and if you want to add additional themes or issues let us know with examples and references. Feedback that focuses on the future of your subject area with ways of improving learning will help the arguments to be more likely taken on board, especially if it includes references to relevant  government papers, subject specific policy or existing research on the future of work in HE.

UWE UNISON will submit a final report at the end of the consultation. This process is both s a consultation and a negotiation, which means management are required to reach to an agreement with the unions. Your insights and feedback on improving this restructure is essential.

In solidarity,

Tamsila Tauqir, Chair of UWE UNISON
