International Workers Memorial Day 2026

28th April, is International Workers Memorial Day. It’s a day we can come together to remember those who have lost their lives to work, and to remind us to continue to fight for the living to make work safe.

It is often thanks to Trade Unions and Trade Unionists like yourselves that we now hardly hear about deaths in the workplace in the UK. Even one death, however, caused by work is one death too many. No one should die whilst trying to make a living.

We invite you all to take some time to think of our comrades at home and abroad and how we can support each other in the fight to improve our working conditions.

If you are interested, you can find the list of people here on the HSE website who have died since April 2025 due to work related causes.

We also have an International Workers Memorial Day tree on Frenchay campus, which you can find here. There is a bench near the tree, so if you wish you can go there for a moment of reflection whenever you wish.

You can also find more information about IWMD here on the TUC website.

Kind regards,

Jenny Atkinson (International Relations Officer), Marcus Pugh (Health and Safety Officer)
